Know the warning signs before a request becomes urgent.

What to do

  1. Be cautious of guaranteed returns, gift cards, crypto transfers, and "safe account" claims.
  2. Verify family emergencies and changed invoices independently.
  3. Contact your financial institution immediately if you sent money or see a suspicious transaction.

Rights and insurance coverage may be more limited when someone is tricked into authorizing a transfer than when a transaction was unauthorized.
